The entire project is a rhapsody of these essential materials interspersed with elements of the ‘forest’ represented by the landscape.

The concept has evolved from an undercurrent of sustainability, climate & regional context.

The site is surrounded by 5 of Shivaji’s forts (500 years old) , 3 Buddhist caves (1500 to 2000 years old) and 2 Shiva temples (1000 years old). Stone excavated from the site is one of the primary material expressions. This local Deccan / trap stone is a major building material used in the forts and monuments. The other natural material used is wood.

The entire project is a rhapsody of these essential materials interspersed with elements of the ‘forest’ represented by the landscape. This landscape and the backdrop of the hills is the dominant feature of this project, in a way, negating built form.

There is no threshold between the outside and the interior as they feature a common materiality. The play of light and shade, integrated into the Architecture, ensures a continuously changing environment whilst negating the use of artificial light through the day.
