One of the major factors that contributed to the evolution of our design concept was the low-rise parameter. “I do not see a school building that is heavily reliant on any form of vertical transportation” Kamal S. Malik

Keeping the 'size' of the plot in mind, our concept evolved with the creation of a podium level. This level, which in fact is the ground level, is developed as a podium that is buttressed by grass berms and houses the entire elementary school. This podium revolves around a central landscaped court-yard which also links the other parts of the school. Kinder-garten classes especially, open directly onto 'playpen' areas.

A series of articulated steps lead to the main entrance level of the school. The main foyer is conceptualized as an impressive atrium space that opens to the major common and interactive areas viz. The multi-purpose hall, the administration block and the library. Access to the 2nd level that houses the swimming pool, and cafeteria, becomes a common activity zone for the entire school and links to the entrance court through a sculptural staircase.

The planning has attempted to contain elementary, middle and high school activities to clearly defined single floors. The important point to note is that students of the middle and the high school do not have to climb more than a maximum of 3 levels. By visually connecting the landscaped garden at the pool level and the central landscaped court, the feel of open space is accentuated.
